Raising awareness and providing support for male victims of domestic abuse in Wales
Domestic Abuse can happen to anyone.
Sometimes men may find themselves in relationships where they feel isolated, controlled or humiliated. This is called Domestic abuse and this treatment is not acceptable. “Domestic abuse is the misuse of power and control by one adult over another adult person within the context of a close personal relationship. Abuse can be physical, emotional, psychological, sexual or financial.” It can happen to anyone regardless of age, gender; race; religion or sexual orientation. Even though people assume domestic abuse is mainly about physical violence, it includes a range of actions against a person including name-calling, isolating from friends and family, emotional mind games and threatening.
Every man has a right to feel safe.
While the majority of victims are women, men do experience domestic abuse and need support in the same way. It is often hard for men to get help in these situations because of fears about being ridiculed, not being believed or being treated unfairly by agencies. The Dyn Project can help male victims of domestic abuse engage with local services so that they can be safe from further abuse.
You don’t have to handle it on your own
“The easiest person to lie to is yourself; this is true of all people, and it is especially true in an abusive relationship.” - David, who experienced Domestic Abuse The Dyn Project now works across Wales to support men in 3 different ways:
Helpline - 0808 801 0321 – The Dyn Wales helpline gives support to male victims across Wales by providing someone to listen without judgement. The helpline staff can also help find services to assist callers in their local area. The helpline is totally confidential and free to call.
Website – www.dynwales.org provides general information about domestic abuse as well as providing a directory of services for each local authority in Wales.
Advocacy – We currently provide face-to-face advice, information and support to men in Cardiff who experience domestic abuse.
